Making a lasting impact in the cancer world
1/22/21 Kim Thiboldeaux, Executive Chair of the Cancer Support Community (CSC), joined First Lady Dr. Jill Biden and Whitman-Walker Health CEO Naseema Shafi for a tour of the federally-qualified health center. The visit underscored the importance of Americans getting cancer screenings and personalized patient navigation as the country’s health system grapples with a pandemic.
In 2015, Whitman-Walker Health became the first federally-qualified health center to integrate Cancer Support Community’s evidence-based care model into its services. These services include the psychosocial distress screening (CancerSupportSource) licensed by Patient Planning Services, treatment decision-making support, problem-solving skill development, care coordination and navigation, and self-advocacy training.
Here, on the second full day of the Biden-Harris administration, the nation’s First Lady turns to CSC to tell the story of the patient-focused needs in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic.
